Mayan Hierarchy
The Mayan Civilization was set up into different social classess and proffesions. At the top were the kings of the city-states. under them were the priests, the warriors, the mayan people, and finally, the slaves. Often, the slaves were sacrificed to the gods for appeasement.
Religion in the Mayas
The mayas were a very religious people. They were polytheistic, with many gods of nature. It was their belief that natural disasters and general misfortune meant that the Gods were displeased with them. To pleasd the gods kindness, they performed blood sacrifices and offerings to their deities. some of the gods that the mayans worshiped are:

Itzamna, Maize God- god of the harvest and crops
Oxlahun Kanal, the Owl Deity- a god of animals
Chak- lightning and rain
K'inich Ahaw, the Sun God- god of light and kinship
